FUNDACIÓ VILA CASAS, Contemporary Catalan Art The main purpose of the Fundació Vila Casas is to promote contemporary Catalan art by offering a wide-ranging and inclusive view of the artistic scene of the last 50 years. The restoration of buildings of architectural interest and their later conversion into museum spaces allows the foundation to exhibit its collection in separate museums, each one dedicated to a different artistic discipline. The Can Framis Museum of Contemporary Painting is in the Poblenou district of Barcelona, while the Can Mario Museum of Contemporary Sculpture is in Palafrugell and the Palau Solterra Museum of Contemporary Photography is in Torroella de Montgrí, both in the Empordà region of Catalonia. There are two more exhibition spaces, Volart and Volart 2. Both are early-20th-century, renovated Barcelona warehouses which hold exhibitions of work by contemporary and earlier less well-known artists. |
